Please share your knowledge and experience:
A friend of mine got hit by a car in Indiana, whille she was trying to get into her car. She is serioulsy injured, had her treatment in the hospital. She is safe for now. Her car is damaged too. A car from opposite direction came and hit her, in a slippery road due to snow the earlier day and ran away from the spot. However, the police were able to find the driver who hit her. I have a couple of questions:
1. What will be the legal punishment for the driver for 'Hit and Run Case'?
2. How can she claim for all the damages caused? (The victim and her family's mental torture can, however, never be compensated in moneytary terms)
Any advice and experience is highly apreciated. Thanks.

she can check with her insurance agent and they'll let her know. the other person's insurance agent will pay for her damages, give her medical deal etc. if she's not satisfied, attorney can help but i have no experience with that.

you need to contact an attorney/lawyer ASAP. they all do first free consultation so pick the one you like and wants to work on your case. you are entitled up to 40K in compensation for injuries and other mental stress etc. just google auto injury lawyers and there should be hundreds in your area. normally you would have wanted to contact a lawyer right after the accident, so don't delay any longer.
all the best.

I agree, going with attorney is probably a better course of action than just an insurance agency.

Your insurance will not help you in this situation especially if you only have a liability coverage. Going with a lawyer is probably a good idea. You do want to make sure that the lawyer doesn't not take all the money at the end for fees etc.

"...and ran away from the spot. However, the police were able to find the driver who hit her.".
Wasn't that guy arrested and prosecuted for hit and run? Were there any bodily injuries? Consult a lawyer and they might suggest you to the right direction in your favor.

Get lawyer man. Nothing to do with your own insurance either you are fully covered or liability only.
