I dont think it will be an overstay if you apply for an extension.

so someone asked me similar question
1. visa expires on aug 17 flying out on aug 19---have filed extension nothing yet but only receipt
2. i think overstay count(exceptions of covid)--if yes then might get pulled by customs and stamp something about overstay and barred from coming in.(my opinion only)
3. Rest should be good since leaving the country
4. Except qatar ( i seen mandatory covid test done in 7 days) required prior to board( ethiad and emirates)
5. I provided this info to the person. But looks like another lock down on the making in KTM might hamper the flight again.
