Hi guys, our apartment was broken. our neighbour saw two black dudes break into our apartment and she was the one who called cops.it's not even been a week that we have moved off campus.I don't wanna mention how much worth values they took..but it was a lot. Most of all I am worried about our passports and SSN. They took both passport bags of my roomate and mine. I don't know what those black assholes are gonna do with those passports.Probbaly Id theft or something like that. We have already filed police complaint, but as per their response there's less chance. Could anyone suggest what should we do in this situation? renewwing a passport woundln't be big issue i guess but what about the visa? do we have to go back or is there any easier way? Any suggestion would be highly appreciated.

i think u should go to nepal and be a politician. when you give a speech, you talk about how this incident inspired u to join politics. and after you become the president of nepal, u declare war on US...

Nepalisathi, nobody's gonna reply to you this late except the ones awake like me! Here's the thing! Now that your Passport is gone, you're gonna need new visa to come back to the states ( if you were to leave the U.S. ). As long as you stay here and attend a college, you're fine! You'll be issued an I 20 and you don't have to worry about anything else! As far as the SSN is concerned, make sure that you contacted the nearest SSN office IMMEDIATELY! Sorry about everything else! Feckin chor bhates haru foodstamp ma banchna bahek aru kehi garna sakdainan!

One more thing, since your SSN was also stolen, you might want to contact the three credit bureaus as well just to make sure that your ID is not stolen. Here are the contacts of the bureaus: Equifax P.O. Box 740241 Atlanta, GA 30374 1-800-685-1111 Experian P.O. Box 2002 Allen, TX 75013 1 888 397 3742 Trans Union P.O. Box 1000 Chester, PA 19022 1-800-888-4213

Well, I dont think the problem would be your passport or visa. Good thing you guys informed the police that will serve as a evidence that your passport can be replaced from Nepalese embassy in DC. But the main problem might be SSN, to get your SSN, you might have to get a letter from a employer within the campus. One of my friend lost the SSN, and she was hunting for jobs on-campus for long time as SSA said she needs the letter so that they can issue the replacement SSN with the same number.

And yes, when you get your passport next time you go to nepal apply for visa with the police evidence that you lost your old passport & visa and supporting documents..it should not be a problem as long as you are in status in the US..Good luck!

RIten I really appreciate ur information, and so am I thankful to paradisecity. I did chek out the Nepalese Embassy website..seems lil complicated. Luckily my they dropped my roomate's passport in our mailbox. I have no idea what they did with it. Moreover, this is my last year at college and i have already been to Nepal twice this year. I just don;t want to make a third trip ..but i guess i would have no other choices? wat are the chances of issuing visa from canada..i mean first of all we need a visa to go to canada.Any experience or idea guys???

Well, I applied for canadian visa two times (in 2003 & 2004) few years back. I had a six months visa each time. I did not have any problems as I took updated I-20, full-time status letter from DSO. You might be able to get your visa renewed in the canada, but why do you want to take your chances? I think the best option I see would get the passport from Nepalese embassy and go to nepal a semester before you graduate (do you have copies of old visa? may be your international office at school has it on records, take the copies with you just incase) and apply for visa. Make sure you have current I-20 signed by DSO before you plan a trip and if you can get a letter from them certifying the loss of passport and visa in regard to receipt from police, and all other supporting documentation you will be fine.
