why would maoists disarm before CA or before they see that a stable enviroment has been set up for a startup?

Maoists guns will not storm Narayanhiti. If Narayanhiti is to ever become a Presidential palace, it has to be through the ballot. And the ballot will never happen as long as the Maoist have arms because they cannot go into government with arms (no one is willing to or can accept that) and the longer they stay outside the government, the more fragile the political situation becomes.

Also, you appear to be defending a position that not even the Maoists have taken. They are willing to lay down arms, albeit conditionally, and all recent developments point to this happening in some form or shape.

I am not saying that maoists are supposed to go to Naranyanhiti to bring down the king. If they do that, there will be more king sympathisers than before. All I'm saying is that there are reasons for maoists to becareful not to lay down arms.

With all due respect Sajhause, you seams to be very well read, well educated and very mature person. I hope you are too. But when I try to analyze your thought process I got very confused. Either you don't know anything whats going on in the county or you don't even know what is the exact situation of nepal. Now I am going to put some questions infront of you hope you will answer it .

2. What is your understanding about Maoists philosophy?
3. From the start to till today what have Maoists done right to liberate the country from everything you said it.
4. What do you thiink Maoists should have done to win the heart and mind of peoples like me.
Sajhauser its not anyting personal but I really want to know your in-depth knowledge of nepalies politic or Maoists philosophy. Educate us with solid back up radher than just trying to show up that you can type in english or write in English or hollow comments which makes no sense I may add.

I had argued relentlessly in favor of maoist about 2 months ago. And yes I got tiered of it as there wasn’t anyone like you who questioned why I was saying what I was, so I thought I’d make at least some hollow comments for what I believe in.

I am not supporting maoist philosophy, but what they have done so far is a lot better than what the politicians had been trying to do. They have been trying to bring ‘justice’ to the community where there was need of a punisher. Of course, there can be instances of wrong doings from maoist sub-groups. When the group is so big, I think it’s wrong to even expect things to proceed without errors.

I am Maoists sympathizer/supporter, because they have touched the root cause of the negative side of our society, i.e. caste system, jamindars (who had continued to loot both the country as well as the poors), monarchy, women issues. Basically the hierarchical society where the there is a head of the family who is ‘always’ right and then there is boss and boss’s boss…until it reaches the king.

2. What is your understanding about Maoists philosophy?

I haven’t read the Maoist philosophy in depth, but I do have idea about basic communism and how it works. No, I don’t want my country to be like North Korea. I would have supported, just anyone who’d touch the negative factors of our society and actually ‘work’ on it too. So the name could’ve been anything, ‘abc’ or ‘bcd’. If ‘abc’ did what Maoists are doing right now, I’d have supported ‘abc’. I think it’s misunderstanding among people who think the Maoists will bring Maoism in Nepal. Because in this era, it is simply next to impossible to for ‘hard core communism’ to flourish and both prachanda and baburam seem to know about it. For example, prachanda had said in his one of his interviews that he was in favor of multiparty democracy. So now you can see that hardcore communism and multiparty democracy don’t go hand-in-hand.

3. From the start to till today what have Maoists done right to liberate the country from everything you said it.

Maoists have brought the ill doers to justice! The people who thought they were the most powerful and thought they could do simply anything are now afraid of wrong doings. They have evoked the fear among people who’d do something wrong. That fear is always important for a civilized and fair society. That’s the reason for the creation of religion and the reason why people don’t dare to commit even the smallest crime in the US. It’s out of fear. But when there is no fear, when people just do whatever they want knowing that they can even feed the authority to work under them, then what happens? You answer me. And yes, that’s what had been happening in Nepal.


4. What do you think Maoists should have done to win the heart and mind of peoples like me.

If you close your mind towards what Maoists have to say, then in no way will you be able to understand why they are doing what they are. When you have prejudice towards anyone, then it’s not easy to convince you. They have made ‘engineered road’ in a rural place in Nepal. They also want the country to progress like you and me.

For someone who’d ask if violence was necessary to bring the changes: If there was other, why didn’t someone else bring it up?

I don’t know what Maoists should have done to win hearts and minds of people like you. We as un-ignorant humans should try to understand the situation and not put everything in Maoists shoulder. It’s your responsibility to understand the unjust society.

Lots could have been done after Jana andolan-1 in Nepal. But due to incompetence of Nepali congress and CPN (mull) country faced 10 years of insurgency. King carried on the legacy of his father in earlier year of his rule. After the reinstatement of democracy in 1990, king Birendra was in hope that somehow situation might go better. Nothing happened and his entire family and liberal members of royal family were killed like a nightmare.
Now, let us come to the point. So far as we knew about king Gyanendra before he came to power was a foresighted politician like his father he would lead nation to a better but an unknown destination. He proved himself as a fool who did not forcast a political scene which he was going to face even in coming 10 days time. He could have done few things to save his crown instead roaming to African Nations and Camping in Ratna Mandir.
Its time for Nepalese people not to let the chances of grabbing power in hand of Royal Maniac like Paras to reign Nepal again and start again never ending civil war. Most people rely their thought on prejudice. "Maoists are bad. All this people have died because they started the war." I think, that is the very absolute way of thinking. If we know how to think things relatively, not necessarily from different perspective; our mind will prod into the things and analyze "as they are." The tinge of Vipassana appeared in this thread.... Vipassana simply teaches to accept things as they are, not to distort them.

Had it not been the Maoist movement, we would have been still living in neo-pancha's rule. The dang political parties who were always, always afraid of talking about republic, wouldn't have dared to go against Gyanendra's wishes. They would just talk a lot, and be a Nepali neta.

Folks, it is time to move ahead. Why Nepal still has to be the second poorest country? Is it because of Nepali people? My respected father passed away because of brain hemorrhage. He was very healthy. The place in Lamjung I live in is some 130 KM from KTM. If it was in the US, it is little more than an hour's drive...my father was supposed to be in hospital within 24 hours at any cost...but it took more than 24 hours...it took more than 24 hours to get him to KTM ...130 KMs....he didn't make it..he passed away...he would have survived had he gotten in KTM in time..but why my father had to pass away? Why?

The logic on this thread is getting more and more convoluted with each post. When you are blinded by fear, hatred, suspicion, anger or revenge, politics is not for you because all you can really do is screw things up even more!

Not all people are as smart as you to know what is right and what is wrong. Esp. in society like nepal's. Not all people can have open mind, and that's when problem arises. And I salute to people who have dared to point out the problem in our society.

A guardian teaches a child what is right and wrong. But for someone who has grown up learning the one sided story of life and who never had a chance to have an open mind will have very difficult time to open up his/her mind even when he grows old. Unfortunately there are plenty of people of that kind in nepal....

please allow me this privilege to plaudit your arguments. yes! it's not with the term 'maoism', but it's the cause--"equitable society" that we accord with. it should be understood that longevity of maoists' existence in nepal is possible only with them coming under the umbrella of multiparty democracy-- the democracy which does not only favor majority but a democracy which also respects and protects minority's rights seamlessly.

the fear factor that you have raised is another good point in my view. we, nepalese, have been hopelessly careless and irreponsible with freedom that we were bestowed with. past is the proof. we need a system, which can inject a fear to the people so that they can comprehend the differences between wrong and right, good and evil or legal and illegal. a system which can make sure that the people remain within their periphery of ethics and responsiblity. we, as nepali, need that as badly as democracy. matter of fact, a true democracy can prosper only when people know their limit-what they should and should not do.

to the people who are skeptical about maoists coming to the political scene,
my 2 cents is, believe in yourself and don't let yourself to be bullied by the circumstances. we are living in 21st century. if maoists dare to impose monolithic communism and order you to hold the gun, be a man and point that guns towards them.

To all the people who says maoist are in favor of poor please answer this thread. This thread is not just one story. This is the story of every village where there is maoist. I remember how some of my friends used to say how maoist came and take thieir chickens, forced them to cook foods 3-4 am in the morning, took away rice and wheat by force. This is the story of every village where maoist is . I had 4-5 friends from the conflicted area while i was in undergrad and everybody had the same story.

Worst part of maoist is how they have used minors for thier use. Many of the maoist gorillas are under 18 years of old. The villages of nepal was devoid of youngsters because if they have stayed maoist force them to join in the war. Read the another story of your beloved maoist who has targeted kids.

I heard that Maoists are floating VCD of their successful attacks in Pili etc. in bazaar at the price tag of Rs 250 per CD.

Maoists beat up dairy entrepreneurs

LALITPUR, Sept 16 - Maoist rebels on Saturday beat up dairy entrepreneurs - Herambh Rajbhandari and his son Araniko Rajbhandari—in Lalitpur.

Rajbhandari's family members said the duo was beaten up for allegedly not allowing workers at their factory—Nepal Dairy Udhyog-- to form a branch of the Maoist affiliated All Nepal Trade Union Federation-Revolutionary (ANTUF-R).

Eyewitnesses said a group of about 25 cadres led by ANTUF-R central member Ramesh Pant had stormed into the house of Rajbhandari at Hattiban, Lalitpur at around 7.30 this morning. They thrashed Rajbhandari, 74, and his son Araniko, who now oversees the business, calling them 'feudals.' The thrashing has left several bruises in their bodies.

Also a former president of Nepal Dairy Association, Rajbhandari is currently undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital. A source close to the family said he had been suffering from high blood pressure and respiratory problems.

He has been breathing with the help of a pacemaker for the past few years.

The Maoist thrashing has seriously jeopardized his health. Young Rajbhandari is said to have received minor bruises.

Eyewitnesses said that the Maoists' attempt to abduct the duo was aborted following requests made by the police.

According to chief of Lalitpur District Police Office Madhav Prasad Nepal, the Maoist cadres returned without taking the duo away after police reached an agreement with them to bring the Rajbhandari duo to the Maoist Party Liaison Office at Pulchowk, Sunday morning, for further discussion.

The victims could not be contacted despite several attempts.

The Maoists, however, refuted the report that they had beaten up the duo.

Shalik Ram Jamarkattel, president of the ANTUF-R claimed Rajbhandari had openly challenged his workers that he would allow the formation of all other trade unions except the one affiliated to CPN (Maoist). According to him, Rajbhandari had sacked over 12 employees on Friday and two others on Thursday alleging them of forming ANTUF-R in the factory.

There are others who also have fought for the same things and will continue to do so. The Maoists have given the cause a push but if they want to take the cause forward they have got to do something about their arms. They will actually be hurting the cause if they continue to unleash violence the way they have been.
