| Nepali firm bags multi-million dollar US deal | | | KATHMANDU, April 21: In a rare case, Homes Nepal Ltd, a Nepali construction designing company based in Kathmandu, has bagged lucrative contracts for multi-million dollar construction project to build a mega terminal for thousands of trucks in California, US.
Homes Nepal recently signed an agreement with Oakland Maritime Support Service Inc (OMSS) to construct the three-year project worth $27 million. The construction is expected to begin in three months. [Disallowed String for - ] type=text/javascript>
Shanker Giri, executive chairman of Homes Nepal, said they have bagged the contract to construct OMSS Center at the port of Oakland, which the OMSS has leased from the US government for 55 years.
Homes Nepal will undertake construction and management of the entire works in OMSS project that will provide multiple facilities in delivery of goods from Oakland port to other parts of California, besides providing parking facilities to more than 3,000 trucks and containers along with other related services.
The facilities consists ancillary maritime support services, including truck parking, trans-load facility, offices for trucking companies or related businesses, fuel stations, truck repair and maintenance, truck scales and related service infrastructure to be constructed in around 15 acres of land in former Oakland Army Base.
“The project will provide a sustainable solution for truck parking in Port of Oakland and meet the California state´s requirement under the Bay Conservation and Development Commission (BCDC) for a huge trucking facility. It would help minimize the truck parking problem in Oakland city,” Giri said.
Homes Nepal will prepare design works and necessary equipment required for the project implementation.
Giri said that the facility will be able to cater to about 3,000 port-servicing trucks by providing food, beverage, bio-diesel fuel, parking, container storage and office space for trucking companies.
“We are planning to provide small contracts to Nepali construction companies and employ high-skilled Nepali youths,” added Giri.
Under the project contract, Homes Nepal Ltd can also acquire up to 50 percent stake of the OMSS Center after the completion of the project. |

Haha, and the poor guy did write REPUBLICA at the top, still he has to hear it from the ungratefuls. That's a good news and good posting. Instead of Nepal giving big projects to foreign companies it is nice to see us getting the legit projects. Kudos.

Though a great news, it is a little incredible. How a residential builder in Nepal wins a commercial building contract in USA is beyond me... I suspect there is much going on behind what's known.

this is bullshit....i have been in constructruction business in US for the last 6 yrs. even for a small construction of 100 thousand, you have to fullfill hundreds of requirements, where experience is a great factor. a nepali contractor/designer does't even know anything about the construction materials that are in practice in US. its a different case if the nepali guy is bidding for the job on behalf of an experienced american company.
otherwise

nepali kanchoo, You are really kanchho, and still little baby. I read this news before it was posted here. One thing you should learn (since I want you to call you kanchho because of the way you response) to give credit to the original poster. I don't know what part of world you are in but we have to learn and appreciate others work as well. It really does not hurt just to specify where it has been copied from and even its a good news it would be better to have a source so that you can confirm that the stuffs posted here at sajha are valid and legitimate.. please grow up kanchha. Grow up from your kanchha mentality .. Good luck ...
