I am so happy for her. Amidst the bad reputation of Nepal around the world (due to Haiti Cholera, Nepal's a**hole politicians inability to choose a primeminister, and recent parliament loot), this news will spread some positive image as well.

I was all teary eyed watching her accept the award. It was such a proud moment for all of us. Salute to this great woman for years of fight towards ending this crime. I hope she can do a much better job at it now, with this international recognition she has received. So happy :)

Upon skimming over the nominees for CNN heroes of the year, each of them look deserving as each of them under unique circumstances decided to do something about what is not going right around them. Anuradha Koirala, being declared the top hero is not matter of which country she is from but what she has done for humanity. Of the thousands of innocent Nepali women Anuradha and her non-profit organization has rescued and rehabilitated, what if just one of them was your sister or aunt? Can you imagine the kind of horror those trafficked women go through every day and every night? It's a national shame that the history of our country has sustained this kind of national slap since the last few centuries. For anti-sexual slavery, I bet Anuradha Koirala has achieved more than all the governments combined that presided over since sex trafficking of both Nepali women and minor girls took root. Now that the problem has gained a global spotlight, it would be shameful if Makune, Prachanda, Ram Chandra Poudel, Sujata Koirala, Baburam Bhattarai, etc and current members of the current government leaders of Nepal cannot allocate time, energy and resources to get right into the root cause of cross-border sexual slavery that Nepal is quickly becoming synonymous with.It is to be noted that Anuradha Koirala bears no relation to the famous Koirala clan, of Nepali political scene, whatsoever.

Combating Sex Trafficking in Nepal: A Modest Effort Jump to Comments Mark Bennett - Summer Intern at Shared Hope Shared Hope International is fortunate to host interns from across the United States who work in our Washington D.C. office on programs including national awareness, advocacy work, research and communications. This summer, our interns have also researched anti-trafficking efforts in Fiji, Nepal, India, Jamaica and the United States – the countries where Shared Hope actively funds programs. By Mark Bennett Known as the “Himalayan paradise,” Nepal is home to the most magnificent tourist locations in the entire world, including the legendary Sherpas and Mount Everest. Yet lurking behind the majestic scenery and peaceful mountain terrain, a lucrative industry of modern-day slavery (that is sex trafficking) thrives. (Read the rest of it by <clicking here>)
