First of all, the consulate at visa office will check whether she is really your wife or not. So get your marriage certificates ready.

Secondly, you should show enough fund or source of income to sponsor your spouse.

The documents concerned with these above two are the main. You can show other documents like property documents and extra bank balance etc. to make your case even stronger.

When you first applied for US visa did you tell them you r single or married. If you applied as single then the first thing you need to do is go back home, get married and get the certificate. Coz most of your expenses here is covered by grants, i think you have a prity good chance.
Nyways, jantare bro good luck. Vauju lyae pachhi ta hajur ko sajha ma darshan milna nikai garo hune hola. Eso bela bela ma hami balbalika lai pabi samjhidai garnu.

In my experience, the visa officer was more concerned on the validity of my marriage rather than my funding. I had taken a small album with about 40 pics and he went through almost all of them and asking questions in most of them, such as where was the ceremony? Who is this? Was it an arranged marriage? and so on. Luckily we (me and my wife) had applied together so I answered all the questions. So if your expenses are covered by grants, then I think it shouldn't be much of a problem.

thanks sparty bro. that gives me a bit of hope.
however my situation is a little different. i'm here in the States, she's back home and as i said earlier, we are not married yet. but i'm thinking about going in like 2 weeks and doing court marriage (because there's no time to do preparations for traditional marriage as i have to get back by the end of august to attend fall semester). during my stay home i'll also update some paperworks showing properties to fund me. well...the jist is that we are not applying at the same time. do you think that's going to be a problem?

Jantare,

Applying separately shouldn't be a problem unless you coach her about what are you studying, which place, university etc etc. The bottomline is that don't let the visa officer doubt about your marriage because she doesn't have  your detailed information. They don't care about the marriage certificate (at least didn't care in my case) because they know that fake documents can be made easily in Nepal. One of my friends didn't do traditional marriage (in fact he had eloped) and when the time came for his wife to apply, there was a big problem. She got rejected many times just because she couldn't provide a photograph of "jagge". I'm not trying to discourage you, but just warning you what problems you might face. They may not give your wife a hard time, but you never know.

By the way I'm a microbiology major too :)

Good luck.

Might be different from then when I applied for F-2 visa.  What I needed were, marriage cirt.,  and I-20 and some fund to support the spouse. They did not ask about  legitimacy about my marriage  and I did not have photographs of my marriage ceremony. But of course had. Letters from Dean, Acedimec adviser and  internationl advisor that My husband has good standing in the Uni.  and Of course I applied when my husband was here. Then the interview was as smoothe as it could be Thanks to consular

It is my pleasure. It was in 2005 September. It looks like thereafter nothing has changed the immigration rules beside the fees. Wish you good luck.

It all depends upon the luck bro. Most important thing is that you should provide a strong financial standing and make them sure that your are not potential immigrant and will return after the completion of your study. I had gone through the similar situation last April. My wife applied for F2 and she got visa without much questioned asked. I didn't even had a scholarship and had to pay 8k every semester out of my pocket. The documents I provided were as follow
  • Enrollment verification letter from the university
  • F1 and F2 i-20
  • Receipt from my previous tuition bill payments
  • Recommendation letters stating that i am a good student
  • Small album containing about 25 pictures
  • Marriage registration certificate and Relation ship verification from ward. office
  • Bank balance, source of income and other financial assets
All I have to say is give it a try. I have gone through the situation and every thing seemed against me. But without listening to any one I decided to go for it and right now we are together. If your wife is giving interview by herself, make sure you make a list of potential question that the consular could ask and make her go through it. I did the same thing so that she feels confident. Good luck brother!!
