If you are applying from US and want to move to Canada, you need to drop your American mentality. US ma yesto thiyo, yaha chiana... US better, Canada khattam. We hear these words all the time and rightfully so for average Nepali. We, Nepalis will always value job possibility over anything other thing. IT market is saturated and if you are lucky you might get a job within few months of landing. If not, you have to buckle up and do whatever is neccessary to get by. About expenses, it used to be pretty cheap in here. 1 US = 1.52 CDN ( 3 years ago). Now it is 1 US = 1.17 CDN..it has extremly fluctuated in the past..so I guess it is little expensive than before..comparitively , everything is relative ..but we do are made to pay more taxes....

I have visited Canada few times and had stayed in Toronot. From my experience and form what I have heard, Canada is certainly a better place to live in than US with weather being an exception. The taxes are higher but you know where your money is going when you get a cheaper health care. It is more diverse than US making Canadian less ignorant and stupid than Americans.

Bullshiitt..... Canada is the country of refugee... haha ha ha.. they approve any refugee nepali no matter how weak their refugee case.... The current Governer General was a refugee.. and the new GG nominated is also refugee from Haiti... so I heard man... so it's a refugee's country. If you come to Canada as refugee then OK... otherwise you are demoting yourself.. coz the top most person (Governer General) is a refugee.. ha ha.

OK Canada is not for refugees, but yes there are lot of races and yes Canada is easy to migrate, but if you've been living in USA for years..I dont think you'll like living here in Canada because USA has a more high standard living than Canada and other certain stuffs! Canada's cheaper+ it's going very peace in here!No fights No warz!!:p hehe ~ Canada is getting up to USA ~+ pots are legal in here ;)ehehe:P j/p

Hurray, "Cheaper health care"..Yes it was free back then but from 2003 Premier Mcguity (Ontario) change that thing and now its on Income Bracket. Its like having an insurence from your work in USA. Now there is no difference in health care but have you ever checked the automobile Insurence in canada and compared to US...its 200% cheaper in USA than in canada. Thats my opinion after living in toronto for little over 2 years ( but goes on). Peace

Himalaya128, Since I never lived there and never had to own a car, I did not know anything about Auto insurance. But even in US, depending upon your driving history and the type of car you own, the insurance can be pretty expensive. And about health insurance, I know that a lot of senior citizens here in US get on the tour bus to go to Canada and come back with bags filled with medicine. But from my experience while visiting Toronto, I found food at restaurants to be a lot cheaper than here in US.

Hurray, I lived in toronto and owned the same kind of car that I owned now. Ii was paying 200 for a month in toronto and Iam paying 45 dollars here in Northern Virginia. So you do the math. About health care you never lived in toronto, how did you know health care is cheaper in canada. getting medicine in bags doesnot mean it has cheap health plan dude. Don't need to argue here but suggestion is appreciated when you really know about the thread.

In my view, Canada and USA are almost same ..but.. Yes, Canada has a cheaper health care and higher tax than USA as said above and Canada has a old-world atmosphere comparing to USA but thats not a bad thing heina ra?.. Yeah! Canada has much lower crime rate comparing to USA and its more safe and as I've seen, Canadians are more likely to accept American Dollars than USA would accept Canadian ones, here in stores, they accept American Dollars. Oh yea language! English is spken in all part of the province except Quebec where french is the main language so if you move to Quebec, you have to know French and all the government publicites are written in both English and French except in Quebec... anyways Canada is very safeeeeeee, dont mean USA's nott lolllllll

Prem_dai: Ya, we are all Refugees here in Canada. But what are you? If you havent gone through history, which you should, technically everyone is a refugee. From the European settlers to job hunting Immigrants.... There is no explanation. But having lived in both US and Canada, I would choose US for the monetary purpose. The only way I would live in Canada is if I was living in West Coast(British Columbia, its heaven out there) Other than that, the weather is gonna take its tool..

Merojageer, If you are in US now I would suggest you to look for IT jobs here in US but if you are migrating to Canada from Nepal then my suggestion is to migrate to Edmonton i.e calgary area. I heard that there are lot more jobs plus low rent will make your life little easier. Thats my suggestion.... Peace

Big cities like toronto does have jobs for qualfied individuals, i mean if you have the right education and experience then you shoudln't have a problem. Obviously you can't compare Canada to Usa, we have 30 million people, what do u expect , even so we do have great healthcare, very multicultural and oh yes we dont' discriminiate when it comes to giving refugees as somoene likes to call it a chance in our govt.. unlike the americans.

Except one is not from the "Royal" elite circle, one is still a second class citizen in Nepal. Except one is not a european-origin white, one is still a second class citizen in the USA. If you are a two-legged human being, you are always a first-class citizen in Canada, no racism, no discrimination. Racism and racial discrimination is virtually non-existent and if one exhibits such an act, it is seriously taken. Thats what Canada is, the model country based on the human values of the 21st century. As prem_dai said, the refugee thing also offends me. I wonder how mnay of our nepalese "refugee claimants" were true political refugees. As far as my understanding goes, a true Maobadi-pidit can not make it even to India, these hypocrites are coming to canada with a visa and that requires demonstrating to the officials that he will return back, lots of property, quite a rich fellow etc. What really offends me is that, esp most of the Nepalese-origin refugees, they are the ones who were responsible for the misfortune of Nepal and the same "soshak-samantas" are making it here, on top of that, they take all the social benefits, work on cash and keep on taking social assistance, kukurko puchchhar bahra barsa dhungroma rakhe pani banga ko bangai, sometimes i wonder whether they should be exposed. And it's a common problem with almost all political asylum-seekers. The true and the needy can never make it to Canada. So alleged criminals against humanity and war-criminals from Serbia, Bosnia, Iraq, and Nigeria are also leading a good life here in the guise of political refugees. Other than that, i am amazed by the size of the canadian heart- you need a really big herat to embrace just everybody in your country and treat them as your family member. Original Canadians are so great. Keep rollling...

That's right....refugee with the weak cases... means they are fake ones. But it's amazing why Canada gives residency to those so called refugee of fake nature. Why can't canada stop them and give to only genuine refugee... that clearly says Canada is wrong.

You guys thing Canada is unaware of those staggering stats. Are you kidding me ? They know the real circumstance of Nepal and proabably more than us. In my view, they are doing this to look better in the bigger picture. Ever wondered why Canada is constantly featured in UN's elite list of Most Liveable Country.. That reason being one..Its all in the game. I am not dissapointed towards Nepali brothers and what they are doing to get status. They are just begging for an opp. to work hard and make some money..HARD WORK for the first for many of them...so, its all win-win situation.

Agree with you casey00 but one thing going on this cowtown is that some of the successful refugee claimants are now starting out their new enterprise of locating 'seminars', and sending invitaions and that kind of human trafficing business- sort of illegal manpower supply business in canada, and to my knowledge they charge sth like 8 to 12 lakhs NRs to aspirant 'refugees' in nepal. this only helps to make the whole community look bad, right? regarding job prospectives in IT, as far as my knowledge goes, if you are in low-level programming and embedded systems, there is good news- canada is one of the world leaders in cybernetics: in par with, if not better than, japan. and the industry is pretty large in ontario. fyi, the famous robotic arm in the space shuttle is called 'canadarm', entirely made in canada. But, for high level programming and stuffs like MIS and web technologies, the market is kind of saturated. For other fields, alberta is booming a lot. and one more thing, bradd pitt and angelina jolie are now in cowtown and screening 'extras' for the movie 'assasination of jessy james' which is being shot here for the next few months . so, you might also get a chance to star in a hollywood movie with bradd pitt, 'as an extra' re kya :-) keep rolling...
