you can't trust the case status online. it often updates after you received your card. don't worry about it, and obviously all cases are different for them and different officers work on them. some are prompt while others maybe swamped with work or just not prompt. have patience. lot of times your status goes straight from initial review to doc production.

Pixie! I had the same case, guess even worse. My friend applied two weeks after I applied for opt. He recieved his opt card, but my was still in initial review.
You need to call the number provided in the reciept (also available online). It would be automated, but select the option that says you need to report an error which will forward your call to the representative. Then they will ask your info ( receipt number and address). They will give you the case number . It will raise your case. Within a week you will recieve a letter sayaing that your case is raised and it says that you will be notified within 4 months. But dont worry, within next two weeks, you will receive your opt card.
My another friend received his card after two weeks of calling USCIIS.

default, I think Pixie is referring to a slightly different predicament.
First of all, when you say partner (or partnet whatever that means), do you mean just a friend or spouse? If spouse, then I think it is very uncommon that they would process them separately. But if it's just two separate case filed once, then there is a good chance that they will be looked at separately.
