Did some googling and found his patent: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100170982 Patent application title: Aircraft without pilot (for commercial and military use) Inventors: Ruchit Kumar Regmi (Kathmandu, NP) IPC8 Class: AB64C1900FI USPC Class: 244 751 Class name: AIRCRAFT CONTROL Publication date: 07/08/2010 Patent application number: 20100170982 If we go through what he writes, it is so simple, without any jargons. Not specific at all. No description of process. No background. He has no iea what other people are doing in that field. For me..It is complete fake, bogus or naive. I compared with a japanese inventor in similar domain and found http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20100206995 Patent application title: METHOD FOR THREE-DIMENSIONAL GROUP CONTROL OF MOVING OBJECTS Inventors: Yoshinobu Inada (Tokyo, JP) IPC8 Class: AG05D110FI USPC Class: 244 76 R Class name: Automatic Publication date: 08/19/2010 Patent application number: 20100206995 The content is so genuine and explanation is good. Background is well done, and knows what is he doing precisely. Nepal government should have a look at this.

I initially thought he was a fake (yet another nepali fake scientist in the long list of those who claimed to have proven Einstein wrong and so on and got fifteen minutes of fame in Nepali media).
But then I read a report in Nepali newspaper that said he was recommended by ministry of science and tech and possibly one another govt institution. So, may be he has done something impressive in Nepal.
I still think this sounds like a con job, and I especially hate people who misuse govt money. But I hope he has at least made something useful that has some practical application.

Until we get the details of the said invention, all remarks will be premature.
US patent office won't issue a patent just with conceptual mumbo jumbo. I assume that there are some technical details included in the plan; just looking at the texts posted, this almost looks like that Ali-G episode where he goes to a company to market his "flying skateboard" plan; when asked how it can be done he says "that's your problem, figure it out. Boo ya ka sha"

Yeh Stiffler, "US patent office won't issue a patent just with conceptual mumbo jumbo." But if he is a con, money is his prime concern. He fooled the govt and took what he wanted. I guess the following is the link for the sanction of 2 million to him. Nagariknews says he is from Bargachi, Biratnagar. This is the place where Bharat Mohan Adhikari, the finance minister, comes from. It must be him who took the appeal to the ministerial cabinet meeting and got it sanctioned.

As far as manless flights are concerned drones are already there remotely flown.. As far as a commuter aircraft or the one from commercial airlines goes,,atleast for now flying an aircraft full of passengers being flown in absence of pilots onboard is sth I am not sure FAA regulations allow.. Even FAA part 23 and 25 aircrafts have different regulations as far as requirements for number of pilots onboard is concerned..
I am sure it is a great idea,,probably cannot be termed as invention..
anyways good luck

Luckily, our national pride is intact because of the gumption of student Ruchit Regmi who has purportedly invented a plane that can be flown by thought-control. An investigative report in a national daily which shall remain nameless since it is so embarrassing to its editor, says Regmi has invented a head cap with sensors so the pilot can navigate the plane to its destination through difficult terrain in bad weather "through his thought and emotion". Regmi claims this will prevent crashes due to pilot error, but one minor point: what if the pilot starts involuntarily thinking about his girlfriend while on final approach to Lukla? Anyway, the Minister of Education thinks this Nepali invention worthy enough to cough up 20 laks of hard-evaded VAT-payer money to get Regmi a US patent.

Yet another con job! When will our journalists learn?
By now, the pattern is familiar. A stringer out of valley claims that a student there has made a new discovery. His beaming parents are interviewed, his neighbors are interviewed, they all claim "sarakarle ek paisa sahayog gareko chhaina, sabai aafai gareko ho", and then, govt is made to feel guilty. And a new Einstein is born who is said to have made our country proud. Meanwhile, these ideas are either not executable or has been floated in the west decades, if not centuries, ago.

This Regmi guy could be con. But, this report in nepalitimes.com is flawed.
it says "......Regmi has invented a head cap with sensors so the pilot can navigate the plane to its destination through difficult terrain in bad weather "through his thought and emotion".
Contrary to this news report, Regmi is talking about pilot-less plane, and computer that runs through human imaginations.
He also says, the patent application has passed 2 stages, and he is in the final stage. I dont know what that means if he indeed has passed two stages.

Well, this news sounded a bit fishy.. so I decided to do a little research. First of all, for the reporter- All US patents are public, anyone can easily search from uspto.gov. I don't know much about aircrafts, but unmanned drones are not new obviously and neither is GPS. Probably there is something new in use of the technology, that is why Mr. Regmi filed the patent. You can view his patent application: http://www.google.sc/patents/U... Now, comes the final part- whether his patent actually got approved or not. This is also no brainer to search. Go to http://portal.uspto.gov/pair/P... There you will have to put captcha and it lets you search the application. Search it using the publication number:20120072058 On doing that, you will see the Status: "Notice of allowance mailed" and the date is 02-03-2014 (MM-DD-YYYY format). This means that his application is actually approved and the notice has been sent to his address. Now he will have to pay certain amount which depends upon the complexity and type of the patent that he has filed and probably that information is not public. Congratulations to Mr. Regmi. Hope you will be able to claim your patent and do something good out of it.

You think it is false because the language is simple and it has no literary background ? Well, patent doesn't necessary have to be a scientific paper. Even your idea/royalty can be patented. And given his patent is already approved, it'd be a foolish act to demean his achievement. For once, can't we applaud him for what he has done ?
