Dear Sajhites,

My parents are here for a month and a half to visit, While they are here I want them to get screened for disease as my mom complains a lot about her health condition. Does any of you over here knows any kind of affordable insurance plan while they are here or any kind of suggestions. They came here as a permanent resident and currently waiting for their green card in mail and recently applied for SSN which will be here in couple of weeks. I would really appreciate your help and suggestions.

Thanks in advance

try it outpatients service in hospital.this is for non insurence people.and ask one of nurses about how to apply insurence for older parents.they might give u some clue.if ur parents older than 65 try it medi care ..i guess.for medi care ,check in online.by the way for out patient service they will charge u some;may be less than $100.

for visiting parents or loved ones, try visitorsinsurance.com

I checked their premiums and coverage for some relatives and found it quite reasonable - it is not expensive. Do visit it. if this does not work, try UnitedHealthCare for short term insurance or call them to get rates.

Good Luck!

Your regional county hospital might come in handy for situations like this. Try contacting financial counselor of your county's medical center.

If you really think she needs to be seen immediately, take her to the ER. They can't deny medical care to her.

Hope that helps!

since you mentioned yor parents have green card. i think you can apply medi care. You can apply medi care at your local

Social Rehabilitation Services (SRS) office. They will check your income and tell you whether your parents are qualified or not. if your parents are approved you dont have to pay anything. Its free and cover everything.

Looser, take her to the ER in any hospital that you want. They'll probably send her a bill but assuming that she's not working, her bill will be waived off.

Nobody except for the ER will see you without insurnace unless you're willing to pay out-of-pocket money.

Good luck, man.

Thanks a lot guys, I took her to ER of a community hospital, they did some checks on her and said that she need to be seen by a gyno but I don't know how to get a hold of a specialist without insurance. She is here for only next 20 days and will be back after a year. I am just confused to take a insurance or not at this point.

i dont think ER will waive the cost

its a lengthy process, they will ask for a payment plan , ask for bank statement, your car value, everything then only they can waive based on  church

Looser, even if she does need to be seen by a specialist, the chances of her primary doctor referreing her to a speiclist within a short time span are low. Does she need immediate care? Try contacting your county hospital's financial counselor. They can actually help you take her to a doctor while her application is pending.

because your parents have green card, your best option to get them health insurance is through the Medicaid program. only caveat would be, the program is disigned for low income folks. so you need a way to show at least one of your parents are generating income through employment. in the past i have "hired" my mom as domestic helper and no problem getthing them qualified for medicad. the the small amount i paid her, i actually got a tax right off....i know right, only in america :)

with the growing number of nepali parents obtaining green card through the citizenship status of their children, medicaid is the way to go if they aren't over 65 and qualify for medicare. it is such a peace of mind to know that your parents have medical care if/when needed.

good luck to you and let me know if you have any additional questions.

@ riddle  how do you get hold of county's hospital financial counselor?
@himalmt How do you prove that you hired your mom as a domestic helper? and dont your parents have to be here for at least 5 years to apply for medicaid? and how long does it take for the whole process to get them enrolled for medicaid?

looser bro - although we have already communicated via sajha message, i don't want to look like i ignored your questions.

not to sound arrogant or anything, but if you take a little bit of time and do some research on your questions, you will find plenty of answers. some of the answers will be specific to the area you live, your income, etc.

i was just trying to be that guy showing someone how to fish instead of feeding him fish everyday....you know i'm sayin :)

but if you hit any dead ends, i'm definitely willing to help. and once again, after our message conversation, you're on the right path. all the best to you and wishing good blessed health to your parents.
