KATHMANDU, Aug 26 - The interim constitution drafting committee handed over the draft statue to the government and Maoist negotiating teams proposing a referendum to decide the fate of monarchy.
Chairman of the drafting committee Laxman Prasad Aryal submitted the draft statue to Home Minister Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Chief of the Maoist negotiating team Krishna Bahadur Mahara Friday evening.

On monarchy

The Interim Constitution Drafting Committee has recommended that the fate of monarchy should be decided by a referendum, which should be held along with constituent assembly election.
The draft statute says the interim legislature's chairman will take charge as Head of the State in case monarchy is abolished before the constituent assembly makes any alternative arrangement.

What do you think? Is monarchy really on the verge of extinction?

Probably not,its not the constitutional assembly that decides the fate of monarchy, its India that decides, since all of our political parties including Maobadi obey the instructions delevered from Delhi, as its clear to all of us that Kings and Gandi families always enjoyed good relationship, except for one occassion when Sonia was denied for the access to Pashupatinath by the late king Birendra. There is no doubt that G.P.Koirala would be happy to replace monarchy and start his own Koirala dynesty, but he is speaking the voice of India that king needs space,so folks he is not the last monarch,we will enjoy a long happy kingship in Nepal .

It's hard to tell - if, as per the recomendations of the ICDC, a referendrum is held, the results could go either way. Regardless of the outcomes of the referendrum, Nepal has changed forever, and even if the Monarchy survives, it will pe pretty much powerless and toothless.

Most likely he is the last monarch .I am probably the first one in sajah who said we need refrendum to decide the fate of monarchy :)

and if i get to vote i would vote for monarchy!
saying that don't think i am royalist.Voting for monarchy doesn't mean you are royalist.some of the tiny brains of sajah won't get it..and i am sure about that..

But people remember this:
This would be the win of the people who wants monarchy down (hook or by crook) not the win of nepali people. There is big difference.Don't be mistaken.
