3rd Yatra: A NYC based Himalayan band comprising of Darjeelingeys, Nepalis and Tibetans is scheduled to perform their first ever major live concert at the Dhaka Club on Dec 1 2007. Surprisingly, this fast paced NY life has not slowed its members: a doctor, an entrepreneur and other normal 9-5 peeps from regualr practices and forming this band. Inquisitive as I am, I was very interested to know, "Why the name 3rd Yatra" as it seemed very unconventional? The answer was brilliant. As per one of the members, the members are on their 3rd yatra in their lives (since they see the 1st yatra as their early childhood/school days. The 2nd yatra as their college and younger days and the 3rd yatra being their current lives in NYC). Please note that the band will be performing their original numbers as well as belting out some timeless classics which I'm sure you'd all end up humming to.

For the Opening band, Normal Academics (a hard rock-metal-grunge infused band) would be doing the honors. This band comprising of a few Limbu kids has performed at the ANA and various other NYC events and bars. They cannot be missed for all you lovers of power chords and ear-drum shattering music. Also, their energy on stage is undeniably fantastic!

The other band is Eden's Key who I hear is among the up and coming bands here in NYC. Their genre is an intermix of metal-hardrock.

If around the tri-state area, Please show your support for the Nepali artists and I hope to see you all.

BTW, if you need tkts let me know so I could drop it off if you live in Qns, Bklyn or Mnhattan (or you could pick it up at the venue).

Date: Dec 1 2007

Where: Dhaka Club, 59-15 37 Ave, Woodside, NY

Price: $25 (a Welcome drink on the house and dinner too...so come in hungry not only for food but also for good music)

3rd Yatra band members:

Guitars/Vocals: Doc dai

Lead Guitars: Daniel Karthak (Danu dai)

Bass Guitars: Pasang Sherpa

Rhythm Guitars: Rinzin

Drums: Jigme

Perfect VR, just email me here at sajha as to where I could drop off the tkts or you could come by and pick it up at the gate (if picking up at the gate, send me an email saying what time you'd be at the concert, so I could save it for you and your party...The venue has a max capacity of around 250 peep, so do your due diligence early bro)....I'll have the tkts on hand for you and your crew!

Thanks to all the Neps who supported the event.  What a great turnout...Better than anything we expected (given that these bands are amateurs)!!  Its great having peeps show up to give some love to the budding local talents we have here.  However, there were a handful ignorant ones who attended the event for the DJ party rather than the live concert (they kept asking the DJ to start the program(??)  hahaha).  I don't know what they expected before attending the concert.  LOL   Next up in line now is the Prashant Tamang concert and its gonna be huge!!

BTW, Normal Academics did some great original numbers and the CD they disributed (for free that is) had a few nice ones.  They kicked azz!!  Good to see kids here do something productive besides just garnering the education degrees under their belts.  And 3rd Yatra did do their bit and the lyrics were way too deep for me...Stuff I just don't have the capability to create!  Eden's key: Damn, the female vocalist had a powerful voice and the scale she covered was intense.  All in all, the performances exceeded my expecation.  Man, I had a blast.
