Is it true that we need job offer from an employer even just to get an 12 months of opt?

I don't think so but we do have to notify the college or INS ( I guess).....

that's not true as far as i know. I graduate last year. it wasn't the case then. You can file for the OPT before you graduate and they can't expect you to have a job before you graduate. I know you can get job before you graduate. Dude you are fine, you don't need to have a job to apply for 12 months opt.I don't know if they change the policy this year but i don't think so. 

lefthook, rule has changed since april of this year.  OPT is still for 12 months, however if someone can not find a job in 3 months, his status will be in jeopardy.  on the otherhand, those with STEM degree can extend their OPT up t0 29 months, provided they are employed by e-verified company. 

AAA is true the rule has changed since april 08 of this year if you do no have job by july 08  in your related field then your status will be out

what if we dont find a job..how can we secure our status.... does it apply to those ppl whose opt was issued before april 08 ..
