Hi all,, Just need an honest opinion from our people who have gone through this procedure or are planning to go for it.. Since i am actively involved in sports activities,, i don't feel comfortable with glasses and lenses..... ,, though it's bit expensive and no body wants to take chance with eyes still I am thinking this procedure as an option..
I had an urge to post on this topic so let me share my experience!
I had this particular Lasik procedure done 1 year and 9 months ago, how time flies when you have near perfect vision hagi!
I only opted to have this operation because my vision was rubbish..was sick of glasses and lenses that irritated my eyes everyday. So after that, my vision was absolutely perfect, better than 20/20 the optician said, hehe, it was the best feeling ever! So now compared to that time, i believe my vision power is still good but has decreased ever so slightly, estimatedly about 18/20 at the worst. I can still walk around and recognise faces, lol, can drive, night vision is not as brilliant as day vision and things get teeny weeny bit blurry trying to focus on something from a long distance. I am still satisfied.
I'm glad i got it done as quality of life has improved greatly over past 21 months, lets just see how long it holds out til, as they say some peoples corrected vision does fade but that is dependent on each individual, no one can predict that.
If you do decide to go through with this, i suggest u have it done by a reputable, well known established company no matter what the cost, cost depends on your prescription, if its really bad then it will be more expensive.
Also, first book a check up and consultation before you build up all hopes and decide to go for it, not everyone is eligible for the operation as your retinas have to be thick enough to get the green light! Thankfully my retinas were superb, but on that day i went for that afternoon check up they had already turned away 2 people for not fulfilling that criteria! Poor them.
Hope that helped...again just remember the experience and results are different for everybody....personally, if my vision again deteriorates maybe even in a few years, i will have the surgery again. I wish you well on whatever decision you take!
Let me share my experience as well. I have been wearing glasses for the past 15 yrs. My power was horrible. When I took my glsses off I could not see anything it was horrible. I was too dependent on glasses and as like you I loved playing sports but hated wearing contacts and my glasses always fell off. I could be as active as I wanted to be.
I decided to have the procedure done and this year Jan I went ahead with the procedure. I consulted atleast 3-4 reputed Dr. before I made my decision.
They all had informed me since my power was so high it might not be fixed in one shot. I was prepared for it. First day of Lasik my head was banging like crazy, but with some medicine and a sleeping tablet it was all gone next day it was like looking at a 1080p screen everything was so clear. the only thing that you have to be aware is not to rub your eyes. If you take your glasses off and feel that your eyes are itchy don't worry because it cannot focus the way it is supposed to hence you feel that you have to rub your eyes. After the vision is corrected it won't itch at all so if that is one of your fears don't worry about that. I was extra careful while taking shower and washing my face I tried to avoid facewash and soap away from my face for a couple of days. You have to constantly put eye drops in your eyes extensively for the first month. After that if you have a wet tear film you would be fine.
I wanted to see which eye had a better vision and I used to cover one eye after the other to see which was better. don't do that for a first month Lasik treatment is supposed to be effective after 4-8 weeks. the week after surgery I was 20/20 in my left eye and 20/50 in the right. I work in IT field so staring at computer all day takes it toll.
Its been almost 3 months, I still use artificial tears. it will cost you like $14 and it will last you upto 1-2 months depending how frequently you use. My latest checkup revealed that I had 20/20 in left eye and 20/25 in right eye. I agree with Chakra night vision is bit bad than day, but the Dr. said that it would get better with time. I still have some drness in my eyes, but the Dr had already informed me before surgery and had even suggested that I might have to put tears for additional period.
I have been playing all sorts of sports, love the way my vision is and this is by far the best investment I have ever done for my self. Use flex account if you have its tax free. You should be aware that you will have to wear glasses once you hit 40s for near vision, that is just age nothing to do with Lasik.
Well most ppl say its not proven for a long run, Well in the long run everyone is "dead," so the decisions is yours, take additional information and decide what is best for you..
Hi, I got mine done about 18 months ago and now I have 20/20 vision. So far I haven't had any problems other than dry eyes. The first 6 months you have to really take care of your eyes and keep'em lubricated with artificial tear drops. The first year, you can't be out in the sun without sunglasses. But I'd recommend you wear'em even after a year has passed. At night times, you'll see halo around the streetlamps and the streetlights. How big depends on how bad your vision is now. But you kind of get used to it like you get used to a watch you're wearing on your wrist. Now how long my vision is going to be like this, I don't know. But even people without Lasik lose vision slowly with age and other things. So, it is upto you to make that decision. Good Luck!
Since I live in DC,, i am looking forward to go to TLC Vision center in DC.. I heard Tigerwoods had his surgery done there : ) i don't know if its expensive or not but i m gonna go there for mine..
