I am planning to change my status from F2 to F1. I've already got the admission from the university, I haven't got the assistantship, I got just the partial tuition scholarship.

In order to change the status, if I send the documents to the immigration, it takes around 3 months in that case I can't join my classes from august. However, if I go to canada for the visa, I feel it would be too risky, because my current status might also be lost if I don't get the visa.

If there is anyone who has tried the change of status from dependent to F1, please suggest me what will be the right way. I would be grateful for your suggestions
